First observed in 1999, National Technology Day commemorates the successful Pokhran-II nuclear tests conducted on 11th May 1998, a milestone that catapulted India into the league of nuclear nations. Alongside, the day marks the maiden flight of Hansa-3, a light aircraft designed indigenously, symbolising India’s growing competence in aerospace engineering.
It was officially designated as National Technology Day by then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
πNational Technology Day 2025 Theme: βYANTRA β Yugantar for Advancing New Technology, Research & Accelerationβ
The term YANTRA has profound cultural and scientific resonance in India. It represents not only mechanical instruments but also the harmony of complex systems working with synergy. Yugantar, meaning an epoch-making transformation, reflects the ambition to transition from a technology recipient to a global technology leader.
π Significance of YANTRA
YANTRA symbolises:
-
Systemic Innovation β Technological networks working seamlessly.
-
Research Depth β Cutting-edge R&D as the foundation of growth.
-
Acceleration β Speeding up the tech adoption curve from labs to market.
