In a major development for teaching aspirants across Jharkhand, the state government has cancelled the earlier advertisement for the Jharkhand Teacher Eligibility Test (JTET). This decision, approved by Education Minister Ramdas Soren, has come amid concerns over discrepancies in the previously released syllabus. With over 3.5 lakh applicants in the last session alone, this update marks a critical turning point in Jharkhand’s teacher recruitment landscape.
π§Ύ Why Was the JTET Advertisement Cancelled?
The heart of the issue lies in syllabus discrepancies. The syllabus released earlier did not meet the updated guidelines and created confusion among aspirants. Candidates and educational stakeholders raised concerns, prompting the government to intervene.
Minister Ramdas Soren emphasised that student welfare is the top priority, and conducting the exam with an inconsistent syllabus would compromise fairness and merit. Thus, instead of going ahead with a flawed notification, the government chose to halt and rectify the process.
π JTET: A Rare Opportunity in Jharkhand
Since Jharkhandβs statehood in 2000, JTET has been conducted only twice:
-
2013: Over 68,000 candidates qualified
-
2016: Around 53,000 candidates cleared the exam
Despite the critical role JTET plays in teacher recruitment, the state has lagged in holding this exam regularly. With more than 3.5 lakh applications received in the last session alone, it’s evident that there’s a huge demand for teaching jobs in the state.
This cancellation, though disappointing in the short term, sets the stage for a cleaner and more transparent recruitment process in the near future.
